This edition of Pennies & Posh brings us once again to Urban Outfitters….. where in the sale section, I came across this silk snakeskin print jumpsuit…. on sale for $29.00… And a beige, wool hooded wrap that on sale cost $20.00. Now call me crazy…. but don’t you think this outfit is a lot of look for $50.00? The quality of both were actually quite good…. good enough that I am packing the jumpsuit for a warm weather trip…. and the wrap was stolen from my body before I had a chance to say… okay! Thank you Ana for taking that beast off my hands! Onto the Posh….
Our wooden Mui Mui clogs were in the 700.00 range and our Michael Kors crocodile belt was in the multi-thousands of dollars range. Both add some serious Posh-ness to our outfit…. But this simple jumpsuit could be worn in a very casual beach kind of way with…. a pair of flip-flops, a skinny belt and a straw bag. Great for resort! Uptown or downtown…. your choice!!
Back in May…. we did a story about how Rite Aide Drug Stores were going uptown….. by re-designing the whole store and adding in upscale make up departments. After much investigation and trials… Our number One Choice for the best make up in the store was… Eddie Funkhouser. Eddie himself happened to be in the Beverly Hills store on the day we were doing our store checks. He was doing makeovers and demonstrating his make up. We already loved what we had…. But upon meeting Eddie were knew we had stumbled upon something really special! So we featured Mr. Funkhouser and his make up here on Fabulous365…. and without surprise…. everyone that bought his make up…. loved it
Rolling forward to last week…… I was digging through my make up bag for my trusty and expensive eye liner. The kind that looks like… and works like a marker. Upon pulling it out and really inspecting (knowing I needed to soon replace), I discovered my eye liner was actually NOT the expensive liner from Barney’s that I thought I had been using….. But the Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Definition Eye Lining stylus! Blow me away! I have been using a $10.00 eyeliner for the past couple of months…. And LOVING it! Do yourself and wallet a favor and get down to Rite Aide and give Eddie Funkhouser’s Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus a try!!
How about an APP that you can download…. and within an hour…. you can get anything your heart desires delivered to your front door! The amazing Ana Ochoa and I were shooting at my home last week and were in desperate need of Coffee Bean (my serious addiction)…. we were so busy shooting that we didn’t have time to do a run. I then remembered my daughter Beau telling me about POSTMATES….. an App you download and can literally get anything picked up and delivered. And when I say anything…. I mean anything… The beautiful young lady that delivered our Coffee Bean…. had just delivered an Apple laptop to her customer before us!! After Coffee Bean…. we went on to have lunch delivered from Urth Cafe and then a dozen donuts from the number one Yelp Donut store!! They also have a specials of the day. On the day we abused the APP… they were giving away free Acai Bowls. All we needed to do was tip the driver! How fun is that!! The usual service charge is around $10.00…. but there are so many specials and promos… that on certain days you can get free delivery!! It’s worth every red cent to get what you need within an hour…. and every single driver I have encountered so far has been amazing! Check it out and start getting deliveries now!!
It’s hip to be Courted…. especially with a “Courting Cake!” This English tradition came across the pond….many years ago with Mary Todd Lincoln… and again introduced through Downton Abby… and is now the “it” cake for LOVE! We were thinking…. with Valentine’s Day a couple of weeks away…. this sunny, beauty of a cake would be so much fun to feature here on fabulous365! As an actual Courting Cake…. or a Valentine’s Day cake to be given to your beloved!
The Courting Cake was traditionally baked by a young woman for her fiancé or beloved. It would be presented to her betrothed as a token of love, friendship and care…. following their courtship. There are many homemade recipes on the internet…. but we decided to make one the easy way!
We took two store bought sponge cakes… and cut the tops off to create a 2 perfect “cake pan” cakes. We stuffed the middles with the cut off pieces…. and then topped with a really fun mixture of whipped cream, gourmet white can frosting and whipped marshmallow. It sounds gross… but it was a really fun and sweet mixture. We then placed the overly ripe strawberries in a circular pattern…. and… VÍOLA!! A “Courting Cake” that literally took moments to prepare! Now if you want a homemade and delicious version…. we found this lovely recipe for your baking pleasure!
One of our favorite designers….. Cushine et Ochs…. does the Little Black Dress in a elegant, classic example of a conservative dress…. with a sexy little twist. The middle cut outs give this dress the oomph factor… while the long sleeves and length give it the time-honored quality of what Coco herself…. intended the LBD to be all about. We feel the Chushine et Ochs would certainly qualify for the wardrobe essential and we are hoping that everyone of you girls has at least one LBD is your closet. If you don’t…. get out there and get a classic black dress that will stand the test of time.
Little black dress From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For other uses, see Little Black Dress (disambiguation). A little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply. Fashion historiansascribe the origins of the little black dress to the 1920s designs of Coco Chanel and Jean Patou intended to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral colour. Its ubiquity is such that it is often simply referred to as the “LBD”. The “little black dress” is considered essential to a complete wardrobe by many women and fashion observers, who believe it a “rule of fashion” that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion: for example, worn with a jacket and pumps for daytime business wear or with more ornate jewelry and accessories for evening. Because it is meant to be a staple of the wardrobe for a number of years, the style of the little black dress ideally should be as simple as possible.
This past year in fashion…. we have seen comic book sayings…. odes to fast food… and some pretty funny interpretations of flowers, neons and fruit…. on tee-shirts, sweat shirts, sweaters, purses, caftans…. the list goes on. So a “Chicken Purse?” YES!! Why not. I saw this rubber chicken purse in an editorial in a very well known European fashion magazine…. and thought it must cost a bloody fortune! Wrong! The rubber “Chicken Purse” cost $32.00…. another mind blowing moment. So I thought it must be a cheap throw away…. but of course bought it anyway. Wrong! When my rubber chicken arrived I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality of this humorous approach to fashion. The quality of the “Chicken Purse” is so good…. that I could actually see wearing this to a serious fashion event.
My ode to….. The Chicken Purse Outfit: A 2 year old pair of A/G sequin red jeans, a black velvet Dolce Gabbana jacket and a pair of Karl Lagerfeld rubber wedges that I found in Australia.
This edition of Pennies & Posh brings us to Urban Outfitters and a jumpsuit that is so much look…. for so little money… that it even blew my mind!! The military jumpsuit cost a whopping 20.00 and paired with the right accessories…. this hot little number can look like a really expensive designer jumpsuit. With that said….let’s get started!! We added on a Chanel Logo pin (500.00) to the pocket…. which helps break up all the green and give it some bling near the face. Now this is where it get’s really exciting…. I think it’s the Lanvin belt is what I think makes this outfit. The rich leather and the crystal front accent even made my 17 year old son take notice! The belt came in at 1400.00 and we finished off the look with a pair of rocking wedge boots by Tabitha Simmons that cost 1300.00. Now we added some serious POSH…. but feel that you could reproduce this look easily by going to Claires or another discount store to get your bling. Grab a pair of great knock off boots…. and there you go… Pennies to Fashion Heaven!!
The white shirt…. I have touted the virtues severals times (as recent as last week!) here on Fabulous365… and also in Genlux Magazine. White actually improves our facial skin tones when worn close to the face as the white bounces light…. helps to brighten our complexions and actually helps our skin glow…You too my fabulous male followers! So I love wearing a white button down whenever I can! Now let’s take the white button down a step further…. and see how it can help us when we need to be dressed up. As of late… I have been taking my sweet heart neckline dresses and wearing a white button down under them. I get the bounce of the white…. all while keeping warmer…. and it’s actually a great, hip and fun look. Julia Roberts even worn one under her gown at the Golden Globes this year! Get… hip… warm… glowing and fabulous with a white button down under anything!!
Imagine a bracelet that is filled with water from the highest point on the planet….. and mud from the lowest point on the planet…. and you have The lokai Bracelet. The white bead holds water from Mount Everest….. and the black bead holds mud from the Dead Sea. I found the lokai at Kitson, Los Angeles and from the moment I put it on…. I felt a calmness come over me. I was in the middle of Christmas shopping and was in a store that was loud, packed and absolutely nerve wracking. The peace I felt upon placing the lokai on my wrist was a welcome reprieve from the insanity of Los Angeles during the holiday season. Was it all in my head? Who knows…. but I every time I put my lokai on I feel instantly better…..
I paid 25.00 for the lokai bracelets (I bought many) at Kitson…. but saw that you can find it much cheaper on the internet. Hunt around and find better deals… the best I saw was on Etsy for 11.00. I am hoping that you can find some inner peace, calm and balance with the lokai… like I did!!
This winter/fall season…. there is one thing that every woman must have in their 2015 wardrobe. We have featured a few pairs on “Pennies & Posh” but today we have going uptown…. and showing our suede ValentinoOver the Knee boots. I minute saw the low heel on these boots…. I knew they were the perfect boot for everyday walking…. and must reside in my closet! Comfortable and so easy to walk in…. yet so stylish and yet so trendy! We paired our Valentino boots with a pair of really hard to find (but out there) Lululemon mesh leggings. (Whenever I walk out the door wearing these comfortable leggings…. I get stopped all day long with people begging to know where I found them.) Add on top… our winter weather Alturzarra suede, faux fur jacket, a pair of studded leather gloves and you have a trendy warm weather outfit for those cool (Los Angeles) winter days or nights!! Change out the leggings for a pair of jeans…. and you have the perfect cold weather outfit for anywhere else in the country.
This is the perfect time to buy your “Over the Knee” boots as most every store has their boots on sale right now. Don’t worry about this trend fading…. boots in every form are going strong…. and will be right on point going into spring 2015 and fall/winter 2015/16!
AKA: Maroon…. or the new buzz word according to InStyle Magazine (and our friends at www.TheBlondeandThe Brunette.com)….. Marsala. This brownish version of the color red is showing up everywhere in fashion and cosmetics in 2015. Our ode to maroon/burgundy/marsala is our Dolce Gabbana velvet dress…. with a sweetheart neckline, gathered waist and dramatic side slit…. finished off with a pair of Christian Louboutin pointed toe, satin pumps. Saying welcome to the color spectrum… and hello to fashion!!
Burgundy: a dark red color associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name, which in turn is named after the Burgundy region of France which in turn is named after the ancient Burgundians, a Germanic tribe. The color burgundy is similar to other shades of dark red such as maroon, cordovan, and oxblood, but differs from each of these in subtle ways.
