I am a sugar addict…. but I want to pick and choose the sugar that goes into my body. We all know that SUGAR is not our friend…. on any level and in the past 30 years, sugar consumption has skyrocketed…. along with diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer and a host of other life threatening diseases. According to a USDA estimate, the average American consumes 10 to 12 teaspoons of sugar every 7 hours. So in a 24 hour period that could mean up to 33 teaspoons are digested! We all know that candy, soda, cookies, cakes and pastries are loaded with sugar…. but it’s the hidden sugars in so many foods that we are eating on a daily basis….. that are going to kill us. I know this sounds dramatic, but it has been proven time and time again that sugar is the cause of many diseases that can prevented by just avoiding sugar. Today we are listing 8 of the biggest offenders of “The Hidden Sugar Trap!” I am sure several of these foods will surprise you…..so let’s get started!!

  1. It’s shocking when you see the numbers in front of you. Even when we think you’re being “healthy” we aren’t! Scary thought!!

  2. Those energy drink are probably one of the worst things you can put in your body! I stay far away from those. But yogurt?! I didn’t realize fruit yogurt contained that much sugar. The more we know….

  3. Funny, when I read the labels, I don’t always check the sugar amounts ‘cause they always seemed to be the least of my worries. But you are right, too much can lead to serious damage. I need to correct!

  4. I am a major sugar addict. I have the biggest sweet tooth around. I obviously know it’s not good for you and that I am getting a load of it when eating candy/ice cream, etc, but I did not realize I was getting that much more in the everyday type products that I’m consuming. Thank you for bringing this to light. I’m going to be more conscience about how much sugar intake I’m getting on a daily basis.

  5. Everything in moderation, right? I’m not going to stop eating sugar all together, that’s unrealistic for me. But I can cut back. I would like to be the healthiest version of myself I can be.

  6. We did not grow up with a lot of sugar based products in our house, so that carried over into my adult life. When I was a kid, I felt so deprived that my mom wouldn’t let us eat sugar. Now, I’m so grateful! Mom is always right! Thanks, mom!!

  7. You can just call me Elf (Will Farrell movie). I love sugar! It’s terrible for you, but there is a true addiction to it, I think! I think I need to start going to SA meetings, LOL.

  8. Some of these items are obvious, but there are a few that surprised me with how much sugar is in them. Like yogurt, protein bars and crackers/nuts.

  9. I eat way too much sugar myself, but I do keep it from my kids. At least try to keep it to a minimal. It makes you wonder how much sugar is in the foods that they serve your kids in school. Scary thought!

  10. I am so glad you brought this up cause I have friends that just won’t believe me on some of these items being terrible for you. I am going to tell them to read your blog and take notes!

  11. “My name is Alexis, and I am a sugar addict.” Do they have a 12-step program for my addiction?! I may need an immediate intervention!

  12. We are definitely caught in a trap! Just when you think something is good for you, BAM! You’re hit with something like this! Nothing good for you tastes THAT good. It’s a known fact! 🙁

  13. When I started my low carb diet, I was not allowed to eat carrots, corn, onions or most fruits as they turn straight into sugar in your body.

  14. So so true! Thank you for having such a wonderful platform to share so many topics related to health and beauty! This one takes the cake!!! Ha! xoxo
