I was on a recognizance mission with my beautiful friend Dawn Ann Billings…. to check out her new home in Red Lodge, Montana. While in town…. we spied a coyote head purse. A real live coyote head was taken and made into a purse! At first I was absolutely horrified…. Until I realized I had brought my Beverly Hills belief system to Montana. This really was the wild west. When I asked the store owner what is was all about…. she explained to me that they don’t go out and kill the animals…. but rather they take coyotes that have died naturally or been killed by cars and use the fur. Much better than actually killing for fur. Any-hooo….. At that point I became very aware that I was a visitor in another land…. and when in Montana… I had to respect how they lived and their belief systems…
Moral of the story: Different lands (even in the United States) have different belief systems…. and when visiting foreign places who am I am to judge how other people live.
P.S. HAPPY BLACK FRIDAY!!! Get out there and shop!!!
OMG!!! What a beautiful place to have a getaway home, no cells, no Internet no noise and road rage!! Just the raccoons , squirrels and birds!! Fresh air, beautiful trees and dirt roads!! Sign me up!
I think I would have a difficult time with the purse, although obtained without malecious intent, I would probably give it back to the earth. Love you doll!!
I have to say this is the best blog yet- hahahaha….I’m biased because I was with you, and shot your fabulousness in the majestic beauty of Montana! I must say – the fall trees were a spectacular backdrop for your photos!
The purse is one of a kind. Remember, Montana is a land of cowboys and indians (really), and the way of life here is living off the land. When animals are hunted or killed, every part of them is used from the bones to the skin, the meat ,everything. It’s all about survival. Nothing is wasted. There aren’t stores at every corner, and sometimes it’s impossible to even get to one due to weather conditions. Cattle actually grow up and are fed REAL grass…what a refreshing idea in this day & age.
Please come back and shoot more on our ranch!
Your blogs are THE best!!!
love you!
Really not into the head purse, but totally agree with your moral of this story!
What a beautiful place!! I would love to visit there!
I totally respect using all of the animal, once deceased, but I don’t think I could wear this purse. It’s just not for me.
I love this idea. Instead of dicarding, they used all of this animal. This shows respect.
Montana is God’s country! Such a BEAUTIFUL place.
When in Montana…..
Now that’s my kind of place!!!!
I think this is fabulous!! Beautiful pictures!
Ummm…no. I couldn’t wear this. I get the moral, but I’m from the big city, lol
Your pictures are gorgeous! Love the landscape!
Not sure how I feel about the animal head purse but I can appreciate them using the animal versus just dumping it.
Great use of the animal taken by Mother Nature or an accident.
I would totally wear this fur purse!!!!
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS!! I love this part of the country!!
“Country road take me home….”
I’m not sure I would wear the purse but totally agree with what you said!
Oh wow! Not sure how I feel about this….
I couldn’t wear it but you make it work!
I think this is great!! Fashion forward and recycling!
Absolutely beautiful but I don’t think I could live like that. I would miss all the luxuries of a big city 🙂
Wondering if allllllll the animals they use die of natural causes or are hit by a vehicle? I really hope they aren’t killing animals to make purses 🙁
What a beautiful backdrop!!! Love the purse too! Too cute!
It’s definitely a different way of living!
I love the moral of your story. Couldn’t be nicer!
