TOMS’ Fringe Bag

I was dashing through the Four Seasons in Westlake Village a couple of weeks ago…. to get to my car. It was Friday afternoon rush hour and I had to get back to Beverly Hills to get ready for a dinner. I was mid-dash when I spied a fridge suede bag hanging in the gift shop window. From afar it looked like a Saint Laurent bag that I had just seen at Barney’s a few weeks back with a very serious price tag. Of course I had to investigate… and that I did. Upon further inspection I see that it’s not a Saint Laurent purse… but actually a TOMS purse. TOMS? They make purses? And did they give a purse for each one sold? I was in a rush… so who had time to ask questions? I bought the two colors that they had (olive and rust) and went on my merry way!! The next day I had the chance to investigate to find out that TOMS does not give purses for each one sold…. they give LIFE!

For every single purse sold… TOMS will help provide a safe birth for a mother and baby in need. Does it get any better than that? I just helped two moms give birth and for that…. I thank TOMS for giving back to those in need.

Happy National Donut Day!

Move over Cronut…. The Cruffin is here!

Today is one of my favorite days of the year – National Donut Day! Who knew that a bunch of dough could make so many people…. so happy! Because my Beautiful People, who doesn’t love a good donut? We have done our homework and, through a lot of research and even more taste tests, we have found the top two donut shops in all of Los Angeles! Let’s get started!

Let’s start with our newest find… Kettle Glazed Donuts. In the Hills of Hollywood and having some of the best tasting donuts that have ever graced my lips, this is the place that brought me my very first CRUFFIN.

What’s a cruffin you ask? Well if a croissant married a muffin and had a baby…. it would be a cruffin. It’s a creamy filled cinnamon muffin with the tastes of croissant, muffin and donut all rolled into one. When I ordered mine through PostMates last week, they were completely sold out at 9am so we waited while they made a full brand new batch JUST for us. When they arrived at my home they were still hot and smelled like a dream!

Other notable flavors from Kettle Glazed:

The S’more, which is insanely good filled with marshmallow madness!

The Maple Glazed topped with bacon…. wow my mouth will never be the same!

The Peanut Butter… with a peanut butter taffy filling… OMG!

They also have vegan donuts (also sold out early… cause this place is that good!!). The list goes on…. every single thing that came from Kettle was so good that I couldn’t even make it through the shoot without stuffing my mouth!

On to…. California Donuts. If it’s good enough for Beyonce…. It’s good enough for us! California Donuts has what has been described as having the most beautiful donuts in the country and we can tell you that it’s true! Where else can you get a panda-faced donut? Hello Kitty? And have it taste amazing?! Where else can you order letter donuts that spell out anything your hearts desires? My son Steven actually asked his girlfriend to prom this year through donuts! They spelled out in full donut size – a message to Miss Jillian (the Gf) – and, of course, when the message is presented surrounded by rose petals the only thing she could have said was yes!

Pay it Forward… The Giving Keys

3 years ago I was at Nine Zero One Salon getting my hair cut. While getting shampooed, I saw these old beautiful keys hanging on the wall. They were very old and kind of banged up… yet hanging on beautiful gold chains. Hummmmm Upon further inspection I noticed what looked like a hand stamped word…. LOVE… on another… STRENGTH…. on another…. COURAGE. I instantly fell in LOVE…. with The Giving Keys. I raced to the front desk to find out all I could about these old special keys. They explained that a friend of the owners, Cailtlin Crosby, started this company by acquiring old keys and having people down on their luck… stamp them with inspirational words. I was to buy that key and give it to someone that needed those words. I was with my daughter Beau and we were getting ready for her engagement party… so I bought her LOVE. So that she could bask in the LOVE of her fiancé, James Fay for the rest of her life. Beau returned the favor and bought me a tiny little key also with LOVE…. explaining that it was the LOVE that she had for me. As tiny drops of tears flowed… I knew I had to share this amazing story. So 3 years ago I did a little story here on FABULOUS365 about The Giving Keys. I had so many calls after the story went live…. that I am sure they sold out that day.

On to Mother’s Day this year… 2015. Beau shows up on Mother’s Day morning with a beautiful key stamped with the word “Darling” and a video of a man hand stamping it…. just for me. Darling is my name that her child will one day call me. Talk about “Pay it Forward!” Beau had met Caitlin Crosby…. the woman behind The Giving Keys… and went for a visit to her work shop. The love and elegance that went into that stamping was astounding to watch. They key itself holds a special message and I am honored to have such a personal key.

Side Note: The Giving Keys does not personalize keys. The whole point of the inspirational word stamped on each key is… to bring that forward into our lives… all while helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Since the beginning, The Giving Keys has employed 19 people experiencing homelessness, providing opportunities for the team members to move into permanent housing.

Today, The Giving Keys are carried in over 1200 stores in the US and internationally including Nordstrom, Fred Segal and Kitson.

In March of 2013 The Giving Keys began partnering with Chrysalis to help find more employees. Chrysalis is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.

As the staff of The Giving Keys grew, they moved in June of 2013 to the Los Angeles’ neighborhood of Lincoln Heights, where they have plenty of space to expand and develop the team.

Now that you know each of these keys were hand stamped with love, we hope their inspiring stories inspire you not only to support our cause with your purchase, but also to keep your eyes peeled for the next person who plays a part in that key’s journey.
